Selkirk Diesel Shops

Selkirk is home to not only a *huge* classification yard, but also to a diesel maintenance shop. This shop was formerly the property of the New York Central Railroad, then Penn Central, then Conrail, and now CSX.

This a sign that's displayed out on the shop floor...right in front of the engines.
I think that is an ex-Conrail GE B23-7, a four-axle 2,300 horsepower diesel engine. Notice how the number appears to be glowing? That's because I nailed it with my flash! The objects under the clear plastic sheeting are new replacement wheelsets.
Another shot of the B23-7. I was able to get a little closer. Notice that the hood doors are opened, and that the number is still 'glowing.'
Diesel engines aren't allowed to be moved into the shops under their own power. So, this 'critter' helps them in. It's basically a shrunken switch engine.
This is a locomotive that CSX is apparently leasing, as it's not in their colors.
A view of the Selkirk Yard. Took this while we were leaving the tower, on the way to the diesel shop
Just had to shoot this. It's the sign on the side of the diesel shop building.
Took this as we were leaving. This is an ex-Penn Central gon, now in MoW (Maintenance of Way) service. Note the huge areas of rust...and the tiny areas of paint!
